ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's volleyball team was unable to overcome the Sage Gators, 13-25, 20-25, 13-25 on Friday evening at Stevenson Athletic Center. 

Pearse Esposito posted 13 assists, five digs, two aces, and two kills. Zach Butler contributed three kills on five attempts for a .600 hitting percentage. Evan McMahon led the team with six digs, adding four kills and an assist. 

Sidney Stein had a team-high six kills plus an ace and a dig. Ansel Waisler tallied four kills, a block, a dig, and two assists. 

Lincoln Grisso chipped in two blocks and an ace, while Moises Arteaga dug up four attacks. Gideon Jacob and Amadeo Pinto each had a dig, and Georgi Chikolov had three assists and two digs.

In the first set, Sage built a seven-point lead at 9-2. The Raptors were aided by a pair of Esposito aces during a 5-0 run to get within two at 9-7. However, the Gators took eight of the next nine points to lead 17-8. Bard got back within seven at 18-11, but a 7-2 Sage run closed out the set.

Bard stormed ahead 6-3 at the start of the second set. It maintained that advantage at 9-6, but the Gators countered with a 15-7 run to go ahead 21-16. Sage kept Bard at arm's length in the final stretch of the frame.

To begin the third, the teams were even at 5-5. However, Sage won 14 of the next 17 points to take a large 19-8 lead. The Raptors trimmed the margin to nine on two occasions, but it wasn't enough.

Bard will host a tri-match tomorrow with a match against Lehman at 11 a.m. and senior day versus York at 3 p.m.
