RECAP: Men’s Volleyball defeats Lehman twice in Senior Day celebration

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's volleyball team took down Lehman twice in five sets for Game 1 and in four sets in Game 2 on Saturday, as the Raptors celebrated their seniors and concluded their regular home games at Stevenson Athletic Center.

Sidney Stein led the team with 30 kills and hit .375, and right next to him was Ansel Waisler with 28 kills and hit .424. Stein added four blocks and 15 digs, while Waisler added 11 digs and five blocks. Stein had a team-high eight aces, four each game.

Lincoln Grisso had 18 kills and nine blocks on the day, while Pearse Esposito had 16 kills with 28 assists. Georgi Chikolov totaled 45 assists.

Bard will face Ramapo on Wednesday for their last non-conference match-up at 7:30, before finishing the regular season with a conference game on Saturday at SUNY Poly. The Raptors will await their post-season rankings after next week.

Bard celebrated their three seniors: Reza Afzali, Moises Arteaga and Georgi Chikolov, and their graduate student, Evan McMahon

Game 1: Bard 3, Lehman 2

Bard took the opening set 25–23 before Lehman responded by winning the second and third sets, 25–18 and 25–23, to take a 2–1 lead in the match. The Raptors answered with a strong fourth set, 25–14, to force a decisive fifth set in front of the home crowd. Bard ultimately closed out the match with a 15–10 win in the final set to secure the comeback victory.

Offensively, Bard was led by a standout performance from Stein, who recorded a match-high 20 kills while adding four service aces and 10 digs for a double-double effort. Esposito and Waisler each contributed 12 kills, while Esposito also dished out 28 assists to help run the Raptors' offense. Chikolov added 22 assists and three service aces, helping Bard finish with 60 total kills and 11 aces in the match.

Despite Lehman holding an advantage at the net with 15 blocks, Bard's offensive pressure and strong serving helped turn the momentum late in the match. The Raptors outscored the Lightning in the final two sets and sealed the victory in the fifth to improve to 12–15 overall on the season.

Game 2: Bard 3, Lehman 1

After narrowly dropping the opening set, the Raptors responded with a resilient performance, rallying to win three straight sets and secure the match. The win also marked another positive result in the all-time series, as Bard improved its advantage over Lehman with the victory.

The Lightning took the first set in a tightly contested battle, edging Bard 26–24, but the Raptors quickly settled in and responded in the second frame. Bard answered with a 26–24 win of its own to even the match, then carried that momentum into the third set where another narrow 26–24 victory put the home side ahead 2–1. The Raptors continued their strong play in the fourth set, pulling away late to close out the match 25–20 and seal the Senior Day win.

With the victory, Bard showed poise in key moments, winning three straight sets after the opening setback and capitalizing on close points throughout the middle of the match. The Raptors' ability to grind out consecutive tight sets proved decisive, allowing them to control the final stretch and finish the afternoon with a 3–1 triumph in front of the home crowd.
