ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team had an early promising start after a three-run home run blast by Sergio Hormazabal in the first inning, but could not keep with the offensive pace by New Paltz, falling 18-3 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Honey Field. 

Hormazabal blasted a rocket to left field to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Hawks quickly responded and began to pull away, scoring runs in seven different innings and breaking the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. Hormazabal went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Angus Lunt-Woodward and Lachlan Rudd had a hit each. 

After the opening frame, New Paltz held Bard scoreless the rest of the way while continuing to add to its lead. Bard did have chances to score more runs, including the bottom of the third with a single by Hormazabal and a drawn walk by Boucher. Due to darkness, the 9th inning was not played. 

Aidan Kiefer had his first start of the season, while Emmett O'Brien had his first collegiate pitching appearance. O'Brien got a strikeout in 0.2 innings pitched. Henry Hubner threw 2.0 innings and only allowed one hit and struck out one, while Elise Berger had two strikeouts. 

Bard will travel down to Florida for their spring break games, facing Alfred on Saturday for a DH with the first pitch at 4 p.m.
