ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's basketball team was ahead early but the Vassar Brewers clawed back on Friday evening, 81-70.

Lucas Tovar had 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting, five rebounds, four assists, and a block. It is the most points he has scored in a Liberty League game. Azikiwe Cuffy-Scott recorded a career-high 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-3 from the three-point line and 3-of-4 from the line. He added five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.

Max Frei returned after missing seven games and contributed nine points, three assists, and two rebounds. Sam Gibbs sparked the offense with two threes, eight points total, two assists, a rebound and a steal. Seth Dyer tallied five points, a career-high three steals, four rebounds, and an assist. Angelos Bratakos tallied five points, a steal, an assist, and a rebound.

Dimitrios Zampoukas had a career-high three blocks, a steal, and three rebounds. Other contributors included Bryce Sampah with an assist and a rebound, Klaudius Skehel with four assists, and Jalen Umstead with three rebounds.

In the first half, Bard started out hot, hitting a trio of threes – Frei, Cuffy-Scott, and Tovar each made one. A 19-6 run by Vassar allowed the visitors to quiet the building and take a 29-17 lead. Bard cut it to two at the 3:15 mark, as a 10-0 run was capped off by triples from Gibbs and Bratakos. The Raptors were held scoreless for over two minutes, and the Brewers closed the half on a 10-2 run that featured strong drives to the rim. Vassar generated eight more shots in the half in large part due to four more offensive rebounds.

A 12-3 Vassar run to start the second half was a tough beginning out of the locker room for Bard. At the 15:36 mark, Cuffy-Scott started to cook. He converted an and-one, and moments later, he banked in a three. Another offensive possession found Cuffy-Scott driving and getting another three-point play opportunity. When trailing 66-46, Bard cut the lead to 11 after a 9-0 run. That was as close as the Raptors got, but they finished the game on a 7-0 run to bring momentum into tomorrow's game. Overall, Bard won the fast break points category 18-11.

The Raptors host Skidmore tomorrow at 4 p.m for its Inclusive Excellence Day and its This Game is No Secret.
