ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's basketball team showed early promise at the first half, but could not sustain Union's intensity as the Garnet Chargers pulled away with an 84-56 win at Stevenson Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

Bard opened the game with energy and the battle was back and forth, keeping the score close through much of the first 10 minutes. The Raptors hit some early shots and kept pressure on Union's defense, trailing by just four points with seven minutes left to go. However, Union's offensive rhythm soon took hold, and the Garnet Chargers began to break the game open with balanced scoring and efficient execution. Union built a double-digit lead by halftime.

Bard struggled offensively throughout the afternoon, shooting under 33 percent from the field in the first half and unable to find consistent scoring options against Union's pressure. The Raptors managed sporadic buckets from their backcourt, but turnovers and missed shots limited their ability to sustain momentum.

Jalen Umstead led the team with 10 points, while Sam Gibbs, Azikiwe Cuffy-Scott and Max Frei each had nine points. Frei and Angelos Bratakos were tied for a team-high five rebounds. Meanwhile, Lucas Tovar had a team-high six assists. Seth Dyer was all over the board, contributing with four boards, three blocks, two points and two assists.

Bard will close out their season on the road, taking on RIT on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Hobart on Saturday at 4 p.m.
