ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's basketball team dropped a nailbiter versus the St. Lawrence Saints, 80-81, Friday night at Stevenson Athletic Center. Seth Dyer hit an improbable three as the buzzer sounded to force overtime, but a last-second free throw made by the Saints was the difference.

Angelos Bratakos led the team in scoring, with 20, adding eight rebounds, three assists, and a block. Jalen Umstead was impactful off the bench, tying a career-high with 17. He also had seven rebounds and an assist. Lucas Tovar contributed 13 points, six assists, two steals, and two rebounds.

Azikiwe Cuffy-Scott made his first career start, scoring 12 on 6-of-8 shooting. He also made a difference on the boards, getting six rebounds. Cuffy-Scott tied Tovar for the team-high in steals, with two.

Dimitrios Zampoukas was called on to make big shots at the end of the shot clock, and he delivered, going 3-of-4 for six points, with two assists and a rebound. Klaudius Skehel started the second half and tied Bratakos with a team-high eight rebounds.

Dyer made the Raptors' only three of the second half, a left-wing catch-and-shoot triple that had the gym astonished. He had four rebounds and a block while guarding Adam Dudzinski, the Saints' leading scorer. Sam Gibbs hit a three of his own, accumulating five points, two assists, a steal, and a rebound.

It was a tale of two halves. Everything went right for Bard in the first half, as they won the second-chance point category 9-2, led in bench points 13-5, had an advantage in points in the paint 18-6, and shot 45% from three to the Saints' 18%. The Raptors scored the first six points of the game, and they took a 16-point lead at 25-9. To cap it off, Bratakos finished a stellar first half with a corner three at the first half horn to extend the lead to 22 at 40-18.

St. Lawrence did not make an immediate comeback, but the lead was down to 14 at the 14:48 mark. Bard responded well, gaining a 51-31 lead with just over 11 minutes to go. Dudzinski bookended a 9-0 St. Lawrence run with scores as he started to assert himself. The Raptors still drew fouls and regained a 15-point lead on the back of free throws at the 6:06 mark.

The Saints caught fire from there, going on a 24-6 run. The Saints hit a three with 3.8 seconds remaining to put them up for the first time in the game at 74-71. Miraculously, the Raptors' inbound went full court over Umstead's head and was deflected off of St. Lawrence underneath Bard's basket to set up the inbounds play that led to Dyer's three to tie.

In overtime, nobody scored for the first 1:16. The Saints got back-to-back scores to gain a five-point lead with 3:16 remaining. Bard had its defense step up for stop after stop, allowing them to take a one-point lead on a free throw from Umstead with 52 seconds left. A foul called with 0.3 seconds left allowed the Saints to seal it with a free throw with the clock stopped.

Bard will look to recover against Clarkson tomorrow at 4 p.m.
