RECAP: Men’s Basketball Defeated By Union

The Bard College men's basketball team could not catch up to a 29 point lead Friday night and was defeated by the Garnet Chargers of Union, 60-89, at Breazzano Fitness Center. 

Angelos Bratakos led the charge against Union with 12 points, four rebounds and going 3-for-3 from the three point line. Azikiwe Cuffy-Scott followed behind with 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Lucas Tovar and Sam Gibbs both came in with 10 points each. Tovar had five assists, two rebounds, and one steal. Gibbs made both of his free throws and had an assist. 

Klaudius Skehel added eight points to the score, had a field goal percentage of 60%, three rebounds, and dished out an assist. Toure Napier-Rowell had his first collegiate appearance and had five rebounds, two points, and one block. Seth Dyer added three rebounds, one block, and had one steal. 

    Beginning the match the Garnet Chargers quickly found their rhythm behind the arc and went on a 12-2 run with 10 minutes left to go in the first half, having the lead at Bard 13 - Union 22. Bard started to catch up and got within five points with only five minutes remaining at Bard 28 - Union 33. The Garnet Chargers quickly went into overdrive and went on an 11-1 run, ending the first half at Bard 29 - Union 44. The Raptors outshot Hobart 40 - 30.80% from the 3-point line in the first half. 

Following a 15 point gap in the second half, the Raptors became more selective with their shooting, allowing the Garnet Chargers to go on a 10-2 run within the first five minutes. The Garnet Chargers had 15 offensive rebounds which helped them score 18 second-chance points. The Raptors could not make up for the first half leaving the Garnet Chargers to shoot hot and stay hot.

Bard will be back tomorrow to take on Ithaca at 4 p.m. at Ithaca, NY.
