The Bard College women's volleyball team got swept on the road by Mt. St. Mary on Tuesday night at Elaine & William Kaplan Recreation Center, but the Raptors pushed the Knights in the later frames before falling 25-12, 25-22, 25-21.
Bard kept the pressure on defensively, recording 46 digs, including 15 from
Becca Wintjen, who also added seven kills.
Annika Flittie chipped in six kills and two aces, while setter
Fernanda Julian paced the offense with 14 assists.
After dropping the opening set, Bard settled into a rhythm in the second. Wintjen's back-row play and timely serving runs from Flittie helped the Raptors stay within striking distance, closing the gap to 22-21 before the Knights pulled away late.
The third set followed a similar script, with Bard battling through long rallies and forcing Mount Saint Mary into errors. The Raptors trailed just 22-20 in the final stretch before the Knights secured the sweep.
Bard will stay on the road this week, taking on FDU-Florham on Thursday at 7 p.m.
