The Bard College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to FDU-Florham in a match held at Ferguson Recreation Center.
Bard came out strong in the first set, securing a 25-16 win. The Raptors had 10 kills with only one error. In the second set, FDU-Florham took an early 9-3 lead that prevented Bard from fighting back as the Devils had 10 kills and only two errors.
In the remaining sets, FDU-Florham pulled ahead, but Bard didn't simply let them run away. Especially in the third set, Bard showed fight as they got within one point, 21-22, but a 3-0 run by the Devils closed out the set. In the fourth set, both teams played similarly to each other. At 14-14, FDU-Florham changed gears as they went on an 11-4 run to close out the match.
Annika Flittie led the team with 14 kills and carried much of the offensive load;
Carmen Merrick and
Nyla Lawrence also chipped in seven and six kills apiece. On defense,
Ella Small had a strong showing with 20 digs.
Bard will be back on Tuesday when they host Saint Elizabeth at 7 p.m. for their Morgan's Message dedicated game.
