ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's tennis team pushed the Union Garnet Chargers but came up short on Tuesday evening.
Maria Castro/
Paige Houghton were outlasted by the Garnet Chargers at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
Patricia Santos and
Catherine Chapel teamed up for the first time this season. At No. 3 doubles, the Bard duo of
Jesse Radzik and
Lisa Kyrtoka was a staple from last season. After the result, their record at third doubles now sits at 3-3, going back to last season.
Castro picked up Bard's first win at No. 1 singles against Union since 2019. She won the cat-and-mouse rallies, moving with speed and agility. Houghton took the court at No. 2 singles, where the Garnet Chargers placed shots into the backhand corner and then capitalized on Houghton's responses. Houghton won a game in the second set. Santos played in the No. 3 position for the first time in her career.
At No. 4 singles, Chapel got a game, but their opponent was mixing it up well with drop shots and slices. At No. 5 singles, Radzik chased down every ball Union sent her way, getting two games on the board in both sets due to her hustle.
Sienna Roveda challenged the Garnet Chargers at No. 6 singles, completing the lineup for Bard. Her Union opponent found her footing and limited errors en route to the win.
Bard stays at home for a 4 p.m. match on Saturday, when it faces Purchase.
