ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's volleyball team defeated SUNY Poly in a thrilling four-setter on Saturday morning at Stevenson Athletic Center.
Ella Small becomes the third Raptor to join the 1,000 digs club.
Nyla Lawrence led the team with 13 digs, a season high for her and a kill shy of her career-high of 14.
Becca Wintjen added 11 kills and eight digs, while
Ava Rhinehart had a career day, with 16 digs and seven kills.
Fernanda Julian had a career high of 26 assists while adding three digs, an ace, and a kill.
Annika Flittie tied her career high with seven aces and added seven kills and seven digs.
The Raptors had to come back and rally in the first and second set. In the first set, the game was tied at 17-17, the Wildcats went on a 6-1 run to lead 23-18, but the Raptors fought their way back with a 7-0 run, including two aces from Flittie. The second set was similar to the first set as both teams went back and forth. SUNY Poly went on a 9-4 run to take a 17-11 lead. Flittie went on a 13-0 serving run to close out the set and added five more aces.
In the third set, SUNY Poly took an early lead and never let the Raptors come back. The Wildcats were within two points of set point when Bard went on a 5-0 run to tie the game up 23-23. SUNY Poly dug deep and got the last two points to win the third set. The fourth set went back and forth, but with the game tied at 18-18, Bard went on a 4-0 run to get within three points to close out the match, the Wildcats tried to close the gap, 20-22. Back-to-back kills from Rhinehart and Flittie set Bard up with match point and the game closed out with a service error from SUNY Poly.
Bard will take on Emmanuel (MA) later today at 3:30 p.m.
