GOSHEN, N.Y. — The Bard men's tennis team fell to Hobart on Saturday afternoon; play took place at Match Point Tennis, an indoor facility in Goshen, N.Y.
Hobart had a strong showing in doubles play, and clinched the no. 1 & no. 2 doubles. It was
Augustin Johnson and
Ciaran Chamberlain's first appearance at no. 2 doubles as a team. Hobart only needed one singles match to clinch, since Bard had to default no. 5 & no.6 singles. The Statesmen were 3-0 heading to singles play.
In singles,
Yashar Khan and Johnson each got on the board at No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles, respectively. At No. 1 singles,
Thanasis Kostikas returned to the top of the lineup, defending with intensity but fell to his opponent.
Ciaran Chamberlain rose to the occasion, playing at No. 4 singles for the first time. Despite not winning a game in the eight- game pro-set, he battled against the pace of his Hobart opponent.
The Raptors will face Ithaca tomorrow, with matches starting at 12 p.m. if it is held outdoors on Bard's campus. If weather forces the match to be held indoors, the Bombers and Raptors will battle it out in Goshen at Match Point Tennis at 4:45 p.m.
