ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team fell in their conference opener against RPI on Friday afternoon at Honey Field.

Both teams had 11 hits each with Bard having three players with multi-hit games, as James Karras, Spencer Azzara and Mike Lynch each had two hits. Karras and Azzara added a run scored, while Lynch had an RBI and drew a walk. Elias Grosfoguel and Avery Melton came in the sixth inning and each had their first RBI. Aidan Kiefer started on the mound for the Raptors and threw 2.2 innings, while Nikhil Newman and Kane Morgan came in as relief pitchers. Morgan struck out a season-high five batters in 4.1 innings pitched.

RPI opened the scoring at the top of the first, driving home two runs, but Bard quickly answered with an RBI sacrifice fly by Andrew Plenn to keep it 2-1. The Engineers kept their offensive momentum going into the second and third innings, scoring 13 runs. Bard battled back as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth and scored a run off an RBI single by Jeremy Hall

In the bottom of the fifth, the Raptors added two more runs off a sac fly by Melton to right field and a ground-out RBI by Xavier Webb. In the top of the sixth, RPI added three more runs to pull away from the Raptors, but Bard nearly prevented the run-rule in the bottom of the seventh as it rallied to bring in three runs and had two runners on base.

Bard will head to RPI tomorrow for a doubleheader to close out the conference series. The first pitch is at noon.
