The Bard College women's volleyball team fell to Skidmore on the road on Saturday afternoon.
In the first set, Bard was within two points at 8-10 before Skidmore went on a 13-4 run. The Thoroughbreds hit 12 kills, while the Raptors managed seven kills. An early run in the second frame allowed Skidmore to go up 10-3. Bard won three of the next five points, as three different Raptors picked up kills. The Thoroughbreds responded with a 12-3 run to bring up set point. Bard saved one set point, but Skidmore came through on the second. The Raptors put pressure on the Thoroughbreds in the third set, starting with a 3-1 advantage. Skidmore cleaned up some of their early mistakes and won five straight points. Bard hung tough with the Thoroughbreds, staying within reach up until 12-16. Skidmore used a 9-1 run to finish off the Raptors, hitting three aces during that stretch.
Bard held Natalie Pederson, Skidmore's leading attacker, to three kills, her third lowest total of the season and lowest in the past ten matches.
Alex Beer led the team in kills, with six. She also added a dig. Becca Wintjen contributed four kills, five digs, and an assist. Annika Flittie tied for the team-high in digs, with seven. Flittie also had three kills and an ace. Ella Small had seven digs as well, along with an assist. Fernanda Julian distributed 17 assists and picked up seven digs. Carmen Merrick had three kills and four digs. Xenia Vassou had three kills and no errors for a .375 hitting percentage, adding a dig.
The Raptors conclude their road trip on Wednesday at 7 p.m., when they play Union.
