ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – In an action-packed evening on Wednesday, the Bard College men's soccer team tussled with the Union Garnet Chargers at Ferrari Field.
Bard had the edge in the first 14 minutes, with the lion's share of possession in Union's defensive third. The Raptors created a corner less than one minute in, and
Ben Steketee took a shot in the 8th minute. However, the Garnet Chargers broke the tie at the 14:50 mark with a goal against the run of play, as
Jake Sudit saved an initial attempt before Union scored. Bard had another corner at 27:08, but no shots came from it. The Raptors had the only two corners, but the Garnet Chargers led the shot category 8-2 in the first half.
The Raptors took seven shots to Union's four in the second half, but the Garnet Chargers' goalkeeper came up clutch, making full extension saves. At the 58:51 mark,
Sam Gerber took one of these shots, only to see it saved. Less than a minute later, Steketee had another scoring opportunity, but he couldn't break through on the bottom left side. The first of Bard's three second-half corners came in the 64th minute, but Union was ready for the set play.
Devon Green came off the bench and provided some energy, taking two shots in the span of a minute around nine minutes later. It soon became desperation time, as the Raptors played aggressively and took on more risk. Union was tough to crack, as they were not allowing Bard to create space, leading to a scoreless second half.
Jake Sudit made four saves, and he was one of five Raptors who played all 90 minutes.
James Bird,
Henry Skeltis,
Brandon Alchy, and
Zac Sparacio were the other four.
Bard's next match is on the road this Saturday at 1 p.m. at RIT.
