The Bard College men's soccer team nearly earned a Liberty League point against RIT on Saturday afternoon.
The first corner of the game didn't come until the 15th minute, and the Raptors were the team that took it. It resulted in a second Bard corner less than a minute later, but the pressure was relieved after no shots came. Later in the half, Bard's shots came in pairs as well, with
Julian Koulish and
Devon Green attempting to score within a minute of each other. At 35:03,
Jake Sudit made a save, and 1:01 later he kept the game scoreless with another save. Overall, Bard was even with RIT in shots and had one less corner, 2-3.
After just 1:29 of play in the second half, RIT delivered the go-ahead goal. About four minutes later,
Emmett Olson found some space to shoot, but the ball sailed high.
Henry Skeltis attacked at the 53:27 mark, but his shot towards the lower half of the goal was saved. The next six shots of the game were taken by the Tigers, but the Raptors held strong to keep it 1-0. Unfortunately, the Tigers' seventh attempt in a row found netting in the lower left corner to make it 2-0. With less than 10 minutes remaining,
Sam Gerber broke Bard's shot drought with an attempt towards the top left corner, just off-target.
Jake Sudit made a career-high nine saves, and he, along with
Aiden Trapp, Skeltis,
Zac Sparacio, and Olson played all 90 minutes.
The final match of the season is next Saturday at 2 p.m., when the Raptors host Ithaca for Senior Day.
