ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard women's soccer team battled but could not stop the Skidmore Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.
Skidmore started the first half with lengthy possessions that wore down the Raptors. The Thoroughbreds sprinted out to a 2-0 lead less than eight minutes in, as two goals within 90 seconds of each other opened up the game. At the 11:19 mark,
Carina Cooke saw an opportunity to shoot from the right side and kicked the ball into the air towards the goal, only to see it saved by Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds extended their lead to 3-0 when they broke through in the 25th minute.
In the second half, the Bard defense held, preventing a goal in the final 65 minutes of play.
Camila Sandaal was often a key cog in the machine, disrupting the Skidmore forwards. Nine minutes into the half,
Maya Farwell had a breakaway opportunity. She forced the Thoroughbreds' goalkeeper to make a stop and keep the clean sheet. Midway through the half, Cooke saw an open field ahead of her and tried to tee up Farwell for a shot. However, the Skidmore goalkeeper scooped up the ball outside the 18. Cooke took another shot on goal with time winding down, but it did not find the netting.
McKenna Reeves had eight of her 11 saves in the first half. It is the third time this season that Reeves has recorded 10+ saves.
