ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – In a roller-coaster showdown on Saturday afternoon, the Bard College men's soccer team and Clarkson battled to a 2–2 deadlock, with neither side yielding on a night of last-minute heroics.
Clarkson struck first just past the 10-minute mark, as Paul Rolland slotted home a composed finish to put the visitors ahead. The momentum seemed to favor Clarkson, but Bard refused to wilt. At 20:54,
Emmett Olson took the free kick and sent it inside the box to find
Henry Skeltis's head, who found the back of the net.
From there, the remainder of the first half unfolded as a chess match, each side probing, pressing, yet unable to crack the defense or beat the keepers. Clarkson generated more shots overall (15 to Bard's 11) and four on target versus Bard's six, but
Jake Sudit in goal stood firm when needed.
Clarkson saw themselves a man down midway through the second half, but were able to prevent Bard from creating a lot of attacking opportunities. With 1:30 left to go, captain
Sam Gerber drew an important foul inside the box for a penalty kick. Olson drove the ball on the bottom right side for his second Liberty League goal of the season and his first-ever time scoring back-to-back goals in two games.
With 30 seconds left on the clock, Clarkson drew a foul right outside the box, and Rolland struck again for the equalizer.
Bard will have a midweek non-conference matchup on Wednesday against Purchase, where they will host their Morgan's Message game.
