ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard men's soccer team came out victorious in their match against Purchase on Wednesday night at Lorenzo Ferrari Field, 1-0.
In the first half, the Raptors dominated, with a 68% possession. At the 20:11 mark, Bard drew a foul outside the box. Recent Liberty League Honor Roll member,
Emmett Olson, took the kick and delivered it inside the box, for a perfect header delivery to
Henry Skeltis, who was able to find the back of the net.
The second half got more intense as Bard was hungry for more goals, taking 12 shots, half of which were on target. The minor setback Bard faced in scoring more goals was the 11 offside calls officials issued against the team.
The Raptors had a total of 29 shots, with
Frankie Perera-Modica having a team high of five shots. Skeltis,
Julian Koulish, and
Pierre Deliso each had four, while
Ben Steketee and
Mikhail O'Garro had three.
The Panthers' goalie was heavily engaged in the match, having 13 total saves from the entire game. Their front line was no match for Bard's defense, as the Panthers took only three shots the whole game. Bard's defense prevailed, ensuring their team remained victorious, their goal holding steady throughout.
Gavin Hersey played his first game back from injury this season. Hersey only had two saves, as the defense kept the ball out of the box for much of the game.
Tonight's win marks the first time the Raptors have had over eight wins in a season since the 2006 season.
Bard will travel to Saratoga Springs this Saturday for a Liberty League match against Skidmore with a 2 p.m. kickoff.
