ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College men's tennis team dropped a Liberty League contest against the RPI Engineers on Wednesday.
Nick Oh/
Ivan Borshchev earned three games in their first match at No. 1 doubles.
Blake Kendall teamed up with
Thanasis Kostikas, debuting at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles,
Peter Trimble/
Ciaran Chamberlain tested their opponents, who responded with great shots down the line.
Kostikas played at No. 1 singles, where he held serve in the fourth game of the match. At No. 2 singles, Oh took the first set – a feat nobody from Bard had accomplished since 2010-11. He nearly came back from a double-break down at 0-3 in the second after knotting it at 4-4. He also evened up the third set match tiebreak at 5-5 after being down 1-5. At No. 3 singles, Borshchev picked up a game.
At No. 4 singles, Kendall served and volleyed, but his opponent gave him tough shots to convert. At No. 5 singles, Chamberlain had to adjust to his left-handed opponent, changing up his positioning in order to make more returns as the match wore on. At No. 6 singles, Trimble won the fourth game of the second set, grinding in long baseline rallies. He also saved two match points.
Four Raptors will compete in the ITA Fall Regionals this weekend, with the first day of matches on Friday at Skidmore.
