ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – Sophomore
Luca Costanzo's goal in the first half was enough to help the Bard College men's soccer team get past SUNY Canton, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field.
Costanzo scored an Olympic goal when the ball curved directly into the top right-hand corner of the goal from his corner kick in the first half. The Raptors had an 11-3 advantage in shots-on-goal against the Roos, but SUNY Canton's goalkeeper stayed resilient and made several great saves. In the first 13 minutes of the game, the Raptors had eight shots on goal, including three shots on goal by senior
Robbie Boyd.
In the second half, the Roos pushed offensively in the last 15 minutes to try to even the score. First-year goalkeeper
Julian Landau had an excellent performance in the second half, stopping the Roos' cross-passing, including the breakaway pass by SUNY Canton that could have evened the score in the game's last three minutes. Fellow first-year
Will Beane-Rosenberg had his first collegiate start and made two saves.
The Raptors will travel to Cobleskill on Thursday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
