RECAP: Men’s Soccer Moves to 3-0 Against SUNY Cobleskill

Goals by Ewalt and Tondini give the Raptors the lead while defense seals the door shut

The Bard (3-0) College men's soccer team traveled to SUNY Cobleskill (1-2) Thursday evening and took a 2-1 win over the Fighting Tigers.

The senior class showcased their leadership today — Cole Ewalt and Logan Tondini scored their first goals of the season in Thursday's non-conference matchup. Ewalt scored on his only attempt, and Tondini applied constant pressure with five total shots, three of them requiring saves by opposing goalkeeper Adam Champlin, who is the current NAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Dylan Kotlowitz also made an impact, playing the lion's share of minutes on defense.

The play of Kotlowitz, Zac Sparacio, and Brandon Alchy suffocated the Fighting Tigers, allowing only two shots on goal. Meanwhile, the Raptors were able to attack at will, accruing twenty total shots, with thirteen being shots on goal.

The Raptors immediately took the lead at the 6:46 mark, as Ewalt sent a shot past Champlin. Mateo Betalu set Ewalt up, sending a pass from the right corner to Ewalt in prime position. A series of five corners in the span of three minutes proved fruitless for both sides — the Fighting Tigers could not attempt a shot off of their two corners, and the Raptors failed on their three attempts.

The Fighting Tigers stayed true to their name, battling back in the second half when Jake Trendell scored his first goal of the season in the sixty-ninth minute.

SUNY Cobleskill could not celebrate for long.

It took just a few minutes for the Raptors to regain their lead, as a Cobleskill handball in the box proved to be a costly error. Tondini lined up for the ensuing penalty kick and ripped a shot to the top right corner, sending the ball through the net. Bard's second goal came at the 69:35 mark, officially just two seconds after Trendell's goal.

The morale was high on the Raptors' visiting sideline while the home contingency was crushed. The Fighting Tigers could not muster another corner or shot the rest of the match, as time swiftly went off the clock.
Sam Gerber still leads the team in goals (2), points (4), and shots (12) after three matches. First year goalkeepers Will Beane-Rosenberg and Julian Landau continue to switch off and have showed that both are capable backstops.

The Raptors' undefeated record will carry them into Saturday's home match against the CCNY, which starts at 2 p.m.
