ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team fell to Williams in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at Honey Field.
Bard struggled to get the bats going at the start of the game as Williams took control early, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Tony Gil Hernandez and
Spencer Azzara were the two Raptors with multiple hits on the night. Hernandez added a run and drew a walk.
Mike Hannan,
Sam Dumper,
Emmett O'Brien,
Jamie Fryer, and
Xavier Webb each added a hit for the Raptors. Fryer added two RBI, while Hannan and O'Brien had an RBI each.Â
Williams took a 9-1 lead after five innings of play. The Ephs added three more runs at the top of the seventh to put the run rule in effect, 12-1. Bard was able to prevent the run rule from ending the game with a two-out rally. Hannan,
Kam Naficy, and
Gavin Gonzalez all got hit by pitches to load the bases. O'Brien hit an RBI single toward the pitcher to bring Hannan home. Fryer then hit a 2 RBI single to shortstop for the Raptors to cut the deficit to 12-4. The Raptors had a chance to score more runs in the bottom of the eighth, with Hernandez drawing a walk and Webb hitting a single up the middle, but the Ephs' pitcher was able to get two strikeouts and a pop-up to end the inning.Â
First-year
Charlie Lehr started on the mound for the Raptors and threw 4.0 innings with two strikeouts, allowing five hits. Fellow first-years
Cal Anna and
Nikhil Newman came out of the bullpen, with Anna throwing 3.0 innings and Newman throwing one inning. Anna had three strikeouts, while Newman allowed one hit. Junior
Mike Lynch, who had never thrown in his collegiate career, threw in the top of the ninth and only allowed two hits in the five batters he faced.Â
Bard will conclude their home stand on Saturday when they host Vassar for a doubleheader at noon.
