ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team fell short of a comeback in a non-conference game against Saint Elizabeth, dropping the decision 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Honey Field.

Bard showcased their individual talents with at least seven Raptors securing a hit, including a standout performance from Sam Dumper with multiple hits and a team-high three RBI from Gavin Gonzalez. Kam Naficy also made a significant impact with a hit and two RBI after coming into the game in the seventh inning.

Luke Langford had his first collegiate start on the mound and threw 2.0 innings with one strikeout. Kane Morgan came out of the bullpen and threw 2.0 innings with three strikeouts, Sachin Wijay had two strikeouts and Evan Landsman added one.

The Raptors started strong in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out, two-RBI double by Emmett O'Brien to center field, bringing home Gonzalez and Spencer Azzara. However, Saint Elizabeth quickly answered back, taking a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. The bottom of the fifth saw Gonzalez hitting his first home run at Honey Field, a three-run shot to left field, giving the Raptors a 5-3 lead.

The Eagles answered back in the top of the sixth with three runs scored to take a 6-5 lead, but the Raptors responded with a two-run single by Naficy at the bottom of the seventh to give Bard a one-run lead. In the top of the eight, Bard got into a bases-loaded jam, and the Eagles were able to bring home three runs to take a 9-7 advantage. The Raptors had a chance to bring a run home in the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded and two outs but they were unsuccessful as the inning ended leaving the runners stranded.

Bard rallied back in the bottom of the ninth with a groundout RBI by Jamie Fryer to reduce the deficit to one. The Raptors were again unable to bring home the tying or the winning run in a bases-loaded situation.

Bard will be back in action this weekend when they travel for four Liberty League games. On Saturday at noon, the team will kick off the weekend with  a doubleheader at Hobart, followed by a doubleheader at Ithaca on Sunday at noon.
