Gallery: (3-30-2024) Baseball vs RPI (DH)
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team battled against RPI, but it was not enough to win the series as the Engineers won both games of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Honey Field.
Bard had three players hit over .500 in today's doubleheader. Junior
Gavin Gonzalez led the team going 4-of-6 with two runs and two RBI. Gonzalez had a 1.000 slugging percentage and only one strikeout. First-year
Xavier Webb hit .571 going 4-of-7 with a run, while fellow classmate
Kam Naficy hit his first collegiate home run in Game 1 and went 3-of-6 with two RBIs.
Senior
Aidan Risse started on the mound in Game 1 for Bard and had six strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched.
Bryant Elliott started on the mound in Game 2 and threw 4.1 innings with six strikeouts and only one earned run allowed.
In Game 1, RPI took an early 3-1 lead after the first inning. The Raptors tied it up in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by
Michael Kurlan and RBI single by
Sam Dumper to make it 4-4. RPI switched gears in the top of the seventh inning, scoring 10 runs with two outs.
In Game 2, the game was tied up at 1-1 after a solo home run by
Mike Hannan. The Engineers took the lead after a two-run double in the top of the fifth. Bard answered back in the bottom of the inning with a groundout RBI by Dumper. RPI had a 16-3 lead after the top of the seventh inning. The Raptors, trying not to get run-ruled, scored two runs off a Gonzalez single but weren't able to stop RPI from taking the win.
Bard will take a break from conference play as they face New Paltz on Friday and Saturday for a three-game series. The first game is at New Paltz on Friday at 3 p.m.
