AUBURNDALE, Fl. —The Bard College baseball team battled hard against Elmhurst but got swept 17-11 and 8-2 in Sunday's doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park.
Bard (4-5) had four batters who made it on base in every one of their at-bats.
Emmett O'Brien went 3-for-3 in Game 1, including his first collegiate home run and three RBI. He reached base four times and drew one walk.
Mike Hannan went 3-for-3 in Game 2 with an RBI double.
Sam Dumper led the team with five runs in the doubleheader. He added three hits, including solo home run in each game, three RBIs, and four walks. He was 2-for-2 in Game 1.
Gavin Gonzalez hit his first collegiate home run. In Game 1, he went 2-for-2 with three runs, an RBI, and a walk.
Nikhil Newman started on the mound in Game 1 and threw 5.0 innings. Newman had a career-high seven strikeouts and only gave up three earned runs.
Charlie Lehr made his first collegiate appearance for the Raptors as a relief pitcher and allowed just one hit.
Luke Langford threw 1.0 inning and had one strikeout.
In Game 2,
Bryant Elliott started on the mound and threw 5.0 innings with six strikeouts.
Graham Benway came out of the bullpen to throw 2.0 innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two batters.
The Raptors totaled five home runs in Game 1, including three home runs in the top of the fifth inning, which is a first in program history. Gonzalez and Dumper hit back-to-back home runs to get Bard on the board and then
Jamie Fryer hit a solo home run in the same inning with two outs.
Jimmy Famularo hit his first home run of the season with a two run shot in the top of the sixth, followed by a three-run shot by O'Brien. Gonzalez, Dumper, Fryer, Famularo and O'Brien's home runs were all their first collegiate home run.
Bard will conclude their spring break trip on Tuesday when they face Keuka for a nine-inning game at 2:30 p.m.
