RECAP: Baseball sweeps UW-Eau Claire

Raptors win 10-7 and 6-4

AUBURNDALE, FL — The Bard College baseball team swept past UW-Eau Claire in a thrilling doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Mickey Etherton Field at Lake Myers Park in Auburndale, Florida.

Bard (4-3) and UW-Eau Claire (0-4) combined for 28 hits on the day. Seven Raptors had at least one hit, including three hits each from Jimmy Famularo and Sam Dumper. Famularo added two runs and three RBI, while Dumper had three runs and two RBI.

Mike Lynch and Emmett O'Brien each had two hits in Game 1, while Spencer Azzara had two hits in Game 2. Kam Naficy and Bryant Elliott both came up big with back-to-back RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning of Game 2 to secure the victory.

Kane Morgan started on the mound in Game 1, throwing 5.0 innings. He struck out eight batters for a new career-high and allowed just four hits. Sachin Wijay came in as the relief pitcher and threw 2.0 innings, notching three strikeouts.

Aidan Risse started Game 2 and pitched 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. Evan Landsman picked up his second win of the season, taking the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning and pitching 1.2 innings with one strikeout.

Bard takes on Elmhurst tomorrow for a doubleheader with the first pitch at 2:30 p.m.

Game 1: Bard 10, UW-Eau Claire 7
Bard scored two in the first inning, with an RBI double from Dumper to left field to bring home Famularo and an RBI groundout by Gavin Gonzalez. The Raptors added another run in the top of the third inning off a sac fly from Gonzalez to make it 3-1.

UW-Eau Claire took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third. Xavier Webb tied the game in the next inning with an RBI groundout, but a solo home run by the Blugolds gave them back the lead.

The Raptors came out hot in the top of the sixth, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 10-5 lead. UW-Eau Claire battled in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs with two outs. With the bases loaded, Wijay was able to get the third out with a flyout to center field.

Game 2: Bard 6, UW-Eau Claire 4 (8 innings)
The first three innings were all about the pitching as it wasn't until the top of the fourth that the Raptors took the lead on a double steal. Bard added an insurance run in the top of the fifth inning after a fielding error by the Blugolds.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, UW-Eau Claire took a 3-2 lead, taking advantage of the Raptors' fielding errors. Bard shook off the errors from the previous inning with back-to-back RBI triples from Azzara and Famularo, giving them a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Blugolds forced the game into extra innings after scoring on another fielding error.

In the eighth inning, Dumper hit a leadoff single to third base, but back-to-back outs left the Raptors down to their final chance with Naficy at bat. Naficy hit a single to third base and brought home Dumper to take the lead. Pinch hitter Elliott added an insurance run with an RBI single to first base.

In the bottom of the eighth, UW-Eau Claire loaded the bases with no outs. Third baseman Cal Anna and catcher Michael Kurlan executed back-to-back fielder's choice outs at home plate, before Anna finished off the inning fielding the final ground out.
