RECAP: Men’s Tennis Faces Skidmore Saturday Morning

Raptors Challenge the Thoroughbreds with Five Players

The Bard College men's tennis team (0-4, 0-4 Liberty League) continued their fall road trip when they went to Skidmore (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League), who opened up their home schedule.

The Raptors fought hard at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles but were unable to win any games.

At No. 1 singles, Kostikas started the match with an ace. Skidmore's Fletcher King had to retire from the match when leading 3-1 in the second set.

Jones played at No. 2 singles, using his backhand slice to defend the aggressive shots coming from Griffin Biernat heading his way.

Yashar Khan attempted to hit with depth and height in his match at the No. 3 position. His opponent still found opportunities to come to the net and finish off points.

At No. 4, Henry's court positioning – moving back, especially on the backhand side – was countered by Kyle Lundberg's consistent baseline play. Henry had a highlight play in the second set on return, where he dipped a low return over the net, gaining control of the point. Lundberg backed up as Henry charged forward to put away the point.

At No. 5, George Miahkov found some success on his backhand, mixing up slice and topspin shots, but ultimately fell to his opponent.

The Raptors had to forfeit No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Bard's next match is against Mount St. Mary, their first non-conference opponent of the season. It will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16th.
