RECAP: Women’s Volleyball Falls to Clarkson

Ella Small Digs Up 14 of Clarkson’s Attacks

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's volleyball team fought against Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Athletic Center.

Bard jumped out to a 5-2 lead, with LaeAnna Riley collecting two kills. The Golden Knights tied it up at 8-8 and back and forth action ensued. At 17-15 Clarkson, the Golden Knights went on an 8-4 run to take the first set by six.

In the second set, there were seven ties from 1-1 to 8-8. Riley and Coral Cook collected an ace each during this period. The Golden Knights created separation, winning five straight points and forcing a timeout by Bard. The Raptors settled down, winning seven of the next 15 points, going punch for punch with the Golden Knights.

The Raptors went up 4-2 early in the third set, but fell down 4-11 after nine points went the other way. With Clarkson holding their seven point lead at 16-9, the Raptors stormed back, with Xenia Vassou scoring three kills on a 10-3 run. The comeback fell short as the Golden Knights closed out the set and therefore the match.

Cook and Vassou each had five kills to lead the Raptors. Becca Wintjen reached 20 assists, doing so in back to back days after collecting 24 yesterday. Ella Small had 14 digs, making it three straight games with double-digit digs. She has had 11+ digs in seven out of the last eight games. Small now surpassed Erin Tedesco with 835 career digs ranking her 5th all-time.

Bard hosted their annual Dig it Pink Miles of Hope game.

The Raptors will embark on a three game road trip on Wednesday against Vassar at 6 p.m.
