ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's volleyball team fell to Union in a Liberty League matchup on Wednesday night at the Stevenson Athletic Center.
Bard took an early lead, going 6-3 up in the first set, but the momentum turned to Union's favor after 9-9 as the Garnet Chargers went on an 8-1 run to lead 17-10. Bard had a 4-0 run to narrow the gap to 17-14. However, Union took control of the set and went on an 8-3 run to close it out.
Union used their momentum from the first set as they opened up the second set with a 10-4 lead. The Raptors were unable to get any offense going and, ultimately, dropped the frame 25-11. In the third set, Bard took a 4-1 lead, but it was short-lived as Union embarked on a 10-3 run and never looked back. The Raptors did save four match points, with kills coming from
Coral Cook and
Carmen Merrick. Bard outblocked Union 8-3.
Cook led the team with six kills and added six digs.
Annika Flittie and
LaeAnna Riley each had four kills, with Flittie adding nine digs. Merrick and
Xenia Vassou led the team in blocks, with Merrick having two block solos and three block assists, while Vassou had four block assists.
Ella Small had a team-high 15 digs.
Tonight's game was dedicated to the Point Foundation, which supports LGBTQ students and helps them receive college scholarships.
Bard will face Skidmore and Clarkson next week, with the first serve against Skidmore on Friday at 7 p.m.
