The Bard College women's volleyball team's early lead could not hold off RIT in a Liberty League matchup on Friday night at Clark Gymnasium, 3-1.
Bard had a strong showing in the first set, winning 26-24, as the Raptors hit .200 compared to the Tigers' .125. Both teams went back and forth throughout the set, with the Tigers having to save two set points before the Raptors finished the set with an ace from
Coral Cook.
In the second set, RIT took control, breaking the 4-4 tie early to go on a 16-4 run. Bard tried to get back into the game as the Raptors won three consecutive points to be within ten points of the Tigers. A service error from Bard gave RIT the second set.
The third set saw both teams going back and forth until RIT switched gears at 11-10 to go on a 14-1 run to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth set, the Raptors fought hard for each point and only trailed by no more than five points until RIT increased their pace at 20-15, winning five straight points to take home the victory.
Annika Flittie led the team with her sixth match with double-digit kills with 12.
Coral Cook racked up eight kills and got her seventh double-digit digs performance with a team-high 17 digs.
Ella Small led the team with a career-high six aces and added 14 digs.
Becca Wintjen added 20 assists and 12 digs, while
Xenia Vassou and
Carmen Merrick each had three block assists.
The Raptors will face William Smith tomorrow at 2 p.m. to continue their road games up north.
