ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — Senior
Rowan Heinze hit a career-high 24 points to help the Bard men's basketball team defeat a hot three-point shooting Vassar on Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Athletic Center, 81-71.
Bard (10-7, 5-5 Liberty League) had four scoring in double-digits, with Heinze leading the team with 24 and shooting 9-of-15 from the floor. He also added seven rebounds and tied his career-high of five assists. Fellow senior
Elliot Harris stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, six boards, and four assists with no turnovers.
Senior
Lazaros Panagiotounis was limited early due to early foul trouble, but it did not stop him from scoring 12 points and adding two rebounds, three assists and two steals. Junior
Sean Wilcox continued his momentum from last night as he put up 11 points, and grabbed five boards. Wilcox added two assists, two blocks and a steal. Senior
Azriel Almodovar had a team-high nine rebounds, and added six points, and four assists. Almodovar's three steals puts him to 126 career steals which is fifth in the school record for career steals, surpassing Andrew McCormack.
Vassar shot 56 percent from the three-point range (14-of-25), which is their best shooting percentage from the three-point range this season, but the Raptors' defense forced Vassar to turn the ball over 13 times and helped Bard score 13 points off turnovers. The Raptors held their own by shooting 46.8 percent from the floor and only committing nine turnovers, which is the second-lowest they've had this season. It is the first time that Bard has defeated Vassar since February 1, 2019.
Bard will be back on the road for four straight games, starting next Friday at 7:30 p.m. when the team takes on St. Lawrence.
