ROCHESTER, N.Y. -
Paige Houghton and
Victoria Bagatcholon earned wins at #5 and #6 singles on Friday in a 7-2 loss for the Bard women's tennis team at RIT.
The Raptors played well throughout the ladder and had a number of close matches throughout the ladder. In doubles action, the #2 team of Houghton and
Bella Ries lost by an 8-4 score, and the #1 team of
Nico Gusac and
Maya Kelly and the #3 duo of
Lexi Sanchez and
Lapis Dove also won games.
In singles, the Tigers were strong at the top of the ladder, but Bard showed grit to earn results elsewhere. After Ries' match at #4 finished with a 6-2, 6-3 result in favor of RIT, attention turned to Houghton's match at #5, where after each player took a set 6-4, the Bard first-year pulled out an amazing 14-12 victory in the tiebreak to win the match. Bagatcholon's match was the final one to finish, and the sophomore showed tenacity to earn the 6-4, 7-5 win.
Bard will now have a break in action for a couple weeks, continuing with Liberty League play on Friday, March 31 when the team faces William Smith.
