The Bard College women's volleyball team took down Sage, 3-1, in a non-conference road match at Kahl Campus Center on Tuesday night. Set scores were 26-24, 20-25, 25-21 and 25-16.
Bard (8-11) was led by sophomore
Nyla Lawrence and senior
Ryan Lum with 10 kills each. Lum added 12 digs, while Lawrence added four blocks. Senior
Adi David recorded her second double-double of the year with 27 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore
Becca Wintjen smashed her previous career-high with 17 digs, her second time achieving double-figure digs this season.
The Raptors took a 17-8 lead in the opening set, but Sage (5-10) fought their way back into the set with a 10-3 run to bring them within two points of Bard. Locked at 24-24 for the fifth tie score of the set, Bard scored the next two points to close out the frame, 26-24, thanks to consecutive attack errors from the Gators. In the second set, Sage took an early 12-5 lead and never allowed the Raptors back into the set.
Tied up at 8-8 in the third set, Bard went on a 5-1 run to take a 13-9 lead. The Gators tried to close the margin, going on a 3-0 run, but the Raptors answered with a 7-2 run of their own. Lawrence finished the set with three consecutive kills. Bard took an early 5-0 lead in the final set of the evening and never looked back. Four consecutive attack errors from Sage secured the victory for the Raptors.
Bard will host rival Vassar next Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at Stevenson Athletic Center.
