POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team defeated Clarkson University, 73-70, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
Bard trailed early, 5-4, then never again, leading by as much as 17, and by as little as one, as Clarkson cut the deficit to 71-70 with 28 seconds left. Two free throws by
Greg Farrow gave Bard a three-point lead with 22 seconds to go, and a Clarkson three-pointer with four seconds left missed, giving the Raptors their first Liberty League win of the season.
"We showed tremendous grit to grind out a win in such a tough place to play," Bard coach
Michael Lenahan said. "We came in with the mindset that it was going to take 40 minutes of effort, and we delivered that."
Tyler Bruns led Bard with 19 points, 11 in the second half. Ayo Akin-Bankole scored 14 points for the second consecutive game, and
Calvin Mader-Clark finished with 13 points, including a huge three-pointer in the final 90 seconds.Â
Azriel Almodovar made a big impact, with nine points, 15 rebounds, three steals and five assists.
No player for Bard had grabbed 15 rebounds in a game since David Runcie did it in December of 2018.
"I'm happy for the team, and we're excited to play our first Liberty League home games coming up," Lenahan said.
Bard hosts Hobart and Skidmore next weekend.
