ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyballl team rallied from a set down to defeat St. Lawrence University, 3-1, in a Liberty League match on Saturday.
It was Bard's first home conference win in the program's history. It didn't start well, as Bard lost the first set, 25-12, then fought the Saints off, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-22 in the last three sets.
"We needed to regain our composure," Bard coach
Lindsey Veersma said. "And we did a good job, in the last three sets, of controlling the pace of the game. St. Lawrence is a young team and we needed to put pressure on them to take the pressure off of us."
Bard got 14 kills and eight digs from
Ryan Lum, 28 assists from
Adi David, 19 digs from
Ella Small, and 16 digs and two aces from
Annie Couey.
Emily Hall Smith was clutch with eight kills, several coming in key moments late in tight sets.
"We were super scrappy and we came out on top," Veersma said.
Bard hosts City College of New York in a non-league match on Wednesday night.
