NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Bard College women's tennis team defeated Mount St. Mary College, 7-2, in a non-league match on Saturday.
"Last year, when we played Mount St. Mary, we lost 7-2," Bard coach Roge Nesbitt said. "This year, our team came back and beat them, 7-2. We have some returning players who have gotten stronger, and also some new players who have really strengthened the lineup."
Bard started the day by winning all three doubles matches, with
Nico Gusac and
Maya Kelly holding off Mount's pair, 8-6, in the No. 1 slot.
Gusac and Kelly went on to win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, Gusac winning a second-set tiebreaker.
Paige Houghton and
Victoria Bagatcholon prevailed at No. 4 and No. 6 singles as well.
The Raptors next host Ramapo College on Sept. 28.
