ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team split a Liberty League doubleheader with Vassar on Saturday, winning Game 1, 6-2, and losing Game 2, 10-6.
Bard's split, along with RPI's split with Union, means that if Bard beats Vassar on Sunday, the Raptors will finish in second place in the East Division and host a best-of-three Crossover Series against the third place team from the West Division May 7-8. The winners of the top four Crossover Series make the Liberty League playoffs. The Raptors could also host if both Bard and RPI lose on Sunday.
Aidan Risse was the star of Game 1 for Bard, giving up one earned run over seven innings with four strikeouts and a walk to improve to 5-3.
Jared Toby and
Justin Fiume drove in two runs apiece.
"Risse gave us exactly what we needed at exactly the right time," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "Now we just have to execute and take care of business on Sunday."
In Game 2,
Alex Luscher had two hits and
Jack Williamson drove in a pair of runs.
First pitch between Bard and Vassar on Sunday is at noon in Poughkeepsie.
