Mukhin shines in collegiate squash debut

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College men's squash team opened the 2022-23 season at the Vassar Round Robin on Saturday.

Down to six players due to some early-season injuries, Bard lost to both Fordham and Boston University, 5-1.

Bard first year Artemy Mukhin, playing in his first college matches, won twice out of the No. 1 position. He defeated Fordham's Nicholas Gilman in four games, and he swept Boston University's Pablo Rodriguez in three.

"Playing a steady and tactically astute style, his patience created many winning opportunities in each rally," Bard coach Craig Thorpe-Clark said. "His consistent approach eventually caused his opponents to leave loose shots, allowing him to hit to the open part of the court.

"Marty Graham played two competitive matches," Thorpe-Clark continued. "His smart play and composure almost allowed him to snatch victory. The majority of the team was playing in their first competitive matches and were much better by the end of the day."

The Raptors host the Bard Round Robin next weekend.
