WENHAM, Mass. - The Bard College women's volleyball team played a pair of matches on Saturday, the final day of the Gordon Invitational.
The Raptors lost to MIT, 3-0, and to Gordon, 3-1.
In the morning match against RIT,
Laurel Edwards had four kills,
Adi David handed out 15 assists, while
Emily Peck,
Annie Couey and
Puja Clements produced four digs apiece.
"
Joanna Jones got the start against MIT and brought a spark to the court right off the bat by scoring the first kill of the match," Bard coach
Stefanie Carrington said. "That really set the tone and powered us to a strong showing in the first set against an opponent who is a perennial power in New England.
In the match against Gordon, the Raptors dropped the first two sets, won the third set, and narrowly lost the fourth set, 25-23. Edwards had 14 kills,
Ryan Lum had 13 digs and David had 26 assists and seven digs.
"They showed a ton of resiliency and played a relentless game against Gordon this afternoon," Carrington said. "I know it's still early in the season but I'm proud of how far the team has already come; they get better every time they step on the court. First year
Annie Couey got the start at libero against Gordon and did a great job anchoring our serve receive and our defense alongside
Morenike Fabiyi and
Ryan Lum.
Laurel Edwards was named to the All Tournament team for her play all weekend. She led our team offensively and used her versatility to find a variety of ways to score."
Bard's home opener is on Thursday night at 7 against Baruch.
