ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost to Skidmore College, 3-1, in a Liberty League match on Saturday afternoon.
Fresh of a victory over Union on Friday, the Raptors came out strong and took the first set, 25-20. Skidmore responded by taking the next three sets, but it wasn't easy.
"I'm really proud of the way our team performed this afternoon despite the loss," Bard coach
Stefanie Carrington said. "Skidmore was the better team for today, but we certainly gave them a run for their money. We aren't who we are without every member of our squad, and our defensive performance was something special and we matched a powerful Skidmore offense with our tenacity and hustle."
Ryan Lum led Bard with 10 kills, 21 digs and four aces.
Anna Skamser and
Emily Smith added eight kills apiece,
Puja Clements had 14 digs and six assists, and
Adi David had 27 assists to go with four digs and four kills.
"Puja, Ryan and
Annie Couey anchored our floor defense, and Anna and
Precious Star did a great job patrolling the net," Carrington said. "We remain focused on improving every day and marching towards becoming the best we can become by the end of the season.
"Ten out of the 12 players on our roster got their first-ever taste of Liberty League action this weekend and I think they're hungry for more," she added. "They get what it takes to compete in this league and they have their sights set on our next round in a couple of weeks."
Bard's next match is a non-league event at CCNY on Thursday.
