SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team split a Liberty League doubleheader at Skidmore on Saturday, losing Game 1, 6-5, and taking the nightcap, 9-5.
The Raptors got solid starting pitching performances in both games. First year
Aidan Risse threw his first complete game in the seven-inning series opener, striking out six and walking none. Skidmore pushed three runs across in its last at-bat to win the game, 6-5.
Joe Barcia went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Bard, and
Spencer Checkoway added two hits including a double and one RBI.
"Risse was great, giving us some length by pitching the whole game," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "We just unfortunately shot ourselves in the foot at the end of that game."
In Game 2,
Bryan Reed got the start and he gave up just two earned runs over five innings.
Andrew Love pitched the final four innings to earn the save.
Jared Toby went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, while
Andrew Roberge and
Frank Rybicki drove in three runs apiece. Checkoway and
Justin Fiume each had two hits.
"The pitchers, Reed and Love, really settled in and set us up well," Salvatore said. "And Roberge did a great job with a couple of big hits. We feel good about Sunday."
The four-game series will conclude on Sunday with a doubleheader at Honey Field. Follow both games via Live Stats or Live Video.
