TROY, N.Y. - Bard College sophomore Joe Barcia has been named Liberty League Baseball Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday. On Tuesday morning, he also made the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

Due to the vast majority of 2020 college baseball seasons being erased by COVID-19, the Liberty League allows current first years and sophomores to be eligible for the weekly rookie award.

Barcia was a menace over the weekend in a four-game series against Vassar. He went 8-for-19 (.421) with two doubles, three triples and his first collegiate home run. He scored six runs and drove in six, and added 10 put-outs in the outfield with one outfield assist.

The leadoff man leads Bard in batting average (.483), runs scored (13) and slugging percentage (1.000).

Bard has six games scheduled this week: Two against Ithaca on Wednesday, and four against Skidmore over the weekend. Follow all of them live right here.
