ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Bard College sophomore
Joe Barcia hit three triples and his first collegiate home run, but Vassar swept Bard in a Liberty League doubleheader on Friday, 5-3 and 14-8.
The Raptors (1-3 Liberty League, 2-6 overall) had a 2-1 lead late in Game 1, but a three-run homer by Nick Greenhawt (Heber City, UT) capped a four-run rally, lifting Vassar to a 5-3 victory. Barcia went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run, and
Jordan Myers went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles for Bard.
Bard had a 1-0 lead through one inning in Game 2, but Vassar put up four runs in the second, third and fifth innings to improve to 2-4 in Liberty League play, 3-7 overall. Barcia continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 with a pair of triples and two runs scored.
Jared Toby,
Justin Fiume and
Michael Hannan each had two hits,
Robert Arciola drove in three runs, and Myers made two spectacular grabs in center field for the Raptors, who get right back on the field Saturday with two games at Vassar.
"Barcia was great, and I thought
Jackson Avila-Connerney was good in relief, and
Andrew Love gave us some length at a time when we really needed it," Bard coach
Andy Salvatore said. "(Saturday), we have to just be more aggressive in the strike zone on the mound and get a couple of timely hits."
