Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2021 season with a pair of matches at the Skidmore Invitational on Saturday.
Bard opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Sage, avenging a 3-2 loss to the Gators back on Sept. 21. Later, Oswego State beat Bard, 3-1, after an epic 31-29 opening set.
"I'm incredibly proud of these women, not only for their work this weekend, but for the work they've put in all season," Bard coach
Stefanie Carrington said. "This is a team of warriors and they pushed themselves for every last point in every set we played today. When we lost such a close match to Sage earlier this season, we knew we were going to get another shot at them today and it was our goal for the outcome to be in our favor this time around. We knew we were better today than we were when we played them a month ago, but it's really validating to notch the win as well."
In that match,
Laurel Edwards had 17 kills and 11 digs,
Ryan Lum had eight kills and 12 digs, and
Adi David had six kills and 42 assists.
"
Adi David was spectacular again today," Carrington said. "She never ceases to impress me; just when I think I've seen her best performance she goes and tops it. Laurel Edward's offense was on fire today as well. In our first match she was nearly unstoppable as she tallied kill after kill.
Precious Star and
Ryan Lum were equally as impressive making major contributions with their attacking but backing it up with their defensive performances - Ryan for leading the team in digs on the day and Precious for her best blocking performance of the season."
With 27 assists in the Oswego match, David pushed her way into the Bard record book again. She is now tied for the No. 5 position in assists in a season with 609.
"Our student-athletes are due for some rest after a grueling season," Carrington said. "but they're also already setting their sights on getting themselves prepared to come back better and stronger next fall. We're returning every single player that competed this weekend so we're excited for what the future holds and taking the next step forward for Bard volleyball next year."
