The Bard College women's volleyball team dropped its final contest to the Oneonta Red Dragons on the road on Saturday afternoon.
An early 7-2 run by Oneonta was too much to overcome in the first set. At 13-8, Bard made a push, going on a 5-2 run to get within two at 15-13, but the Red Dragons responded with a 6-1 spurt.
Carmen Merrick,
Becca Wintjen, and
Paola De La Cruz hit three kills in a row as part of a 4-0 run to make it 18-21, but Oneonta closed it out.
In the second set, a 2-0 Bard lead was washed away as the next four points went to the Red Dragons. The Raptors were not discouraged, as they put together a 5-0 run of their own to take the lead 7-4. The Red Dragons regained the lead at 11-10, holding it briefly as the Raptors held a 13-12 advantage moments later. The back-and-forth nature of the set continued as the set was tied at 23-23 and 24-24 before Oneonta proved clutch. The third frame was more one-sided, with Oneonta hitting nine kills to just two errors. Overall, Bard had a 54-39 edge in digs and a 36-34 lead in kills, but it wasn't enough.
Wintjen was the leader in kills for Bard, with 10. She added three assists and eight digs. De La Cruz recorded five kills, a block, an assist, and three digs.
Annika Flittie had a 14-dig, 8-kill performance with four aces and a block.
Fernanda Julian tallied 22 assists, seven digs, and two kills for Bard. Merrick had six kills on a team-best .286 hitting percentage.
Ella Small had nine digs and five assists in her final collegiate match.
Xenia Vassou notched five kills to go along with three digs.
The Raptors finish their 2025 season 4-24, with wins over Delhi, SUNY Poly, Farmingdale, and Elmira.
