ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team lost to Rochester Institute of Technology, 1-0, in a Liberty League game on Saturday afternoon.
It was Senior Day for
Margaret Wolff,
Katherine Ritter and
Claire Dickson, and the team responded with a gritty performance against the second-place team in the league. A goal in the 86th minute was the difference.
"This was the match that proved why we deserve to be in the Liberty League," Bard coach
Kate Hofstede said. "We have struggled to stay healthy, but the injuries haven't diminished the overall level of play and commitment from the players to compete against good teams like this one. One the whole it was our grittiest performance."
Bard defended well all day in spite of constant pressure, and
Madeline Chilton was superb in goal, making 13 saves and denying numerous RIT opportunities with decisiveness and physical toughness.
"Credit to Madeline for having a stellar performance against such a strong attacking team," Hofstede said. "We are learning to play consistently with our style, no matter who is on the field.
"What a great match to honor our departing seniors," Hofstede continued. "We thank them for their commitment over the years, and through a challenging pandemic, and we look forward to seeing them at future alumni games."
Bard has one game left in the 2021 season. It will be played at Skidmore on Saturday.
