ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's squash team defeated Vassar College and lost to University of Rochester on the first day of the Liberty League Championships.

The day started with an early match between neighborhood rivals Bard and Vassar. The Raptors jumped out to an early lead down in the ladder, when Martin Graham, Layl Andary and Alex Luscher swept matches at No. 4, No. 9 and No. 8, respectively, to make it 3-0.

Sameer Mustafa swept Theo Webb at No. 1 to make it 3-1. Lukas Roscoe then won a pivotal match at No. 5, winning the first two games against Reese Collins, losing the third and fourth games, then prevailing 11-7 in the fifth game to give Bard a 4-1 lead.

Noah Gichan lost the first game at No. 3 to Henry Mitchell before eventually clinching the match with an 11-7 win in the fifth. Devon Wall picked up Bard's sixth point, rallying from a game down to win in four at No. 6.

Bard entered the weekend at No. 40 in the national rankings; Vassar is No. 47.

No. 5 Rochester made short work of the Raptors, sweeping every matchup.

On Sunday, Bard will finish the tournament with matches against No. 35 Hobart and No. 26 St. Lawrence.
