ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Despite a strong outing from freshman guard
Stefanos Psarras, the Bard College men's basketball team couldn't overcome Vassar College, falling 76-46 to the Brewers Friday evening.
The Raptors (0-19, 0-13 LL) played to an 8-8 score with the Brewers (9-11, 5-8 LL) in the first half following four early points from Psarras. Vassar then went on an offensive tear, scoring 11 consecutive points to take a 19-8 lead midway through the first half, with Zach Bromfeld (Woodmere, N.Y.) picking up seven points during the stretch. Bard eventually answered with a three ball from Psarras, but the visitors then scored another six unanswered. The Brewers built their lead up to 22 points late in the first half, but Bard was able to narrow the gap before halftime following back-to-back threes from Psarras and sophomore forward
Stamatis Koulouris, and a jumper from junior guard
John Miller. Still, the home team faced a 39-21 deficit following 20 minutes of play.
The Raptors cut the Vassar lead down to 14 points early in the second, as Psarras and freshman guard
Kevin Le connected on a pair of baskets in the opening minute. Unfortunately for Bard, that was as close as they would get as the Brewers responded with another 11-0 run, this one giving them a 50-25 lead. The Raptors were never able to get going offensively, and Vassar picked up the conference win against Bard for the second time this season.
Psarras led the Raptors on the night with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting, along with five rebounds. Le and freshman forward
Tyler Bruns had eight points apiece, with Le grabbing eight rebounds as well.
The Raptors are back in action Saturday, Feb. 8, as they host Skidmore College at 4:00 p.m.
