Fourth-ranked New Paltz downs Raptors in three set match

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Playing in their second match in as many days, the Bard College men's volleyball team was defeated by defending National Champion and fourth-ranked SUNY New Paltz Wednesday evening in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play.

The Raptors (1-13, 0-2 UVC) took an early 4-1 lead following one of freshman Sebastien Dufour's two first set kills, but the Hawks (11-3, 2-1 UVC) received a pair of aces from John Ronan (Massapequa, N.Y.) to even the score. The visitors then siezed control, as Pat Wing (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the way with four kills in the set. New Paltz closed out the first by scoring six unanswered points, winning a 25-15 decision.

It was more of the same in the second set, as the Hawks rolled off an early 13-2 run and went on to pick up a 25-13 victory, taking a 2-0 lead in the match. Tenzin Kunga (Woodside, N.Y.) took charge in the middle set, earning five kills for New Paltz. Despite an early lead for the Raptors in the third and three kills in the set by junior Joshua Han, Bard was never able to get back in the match. The Hawks closed out the match with another 25-15 victory, earning their second UVC win of the season.

Dufour led Bard on the night with four kills, while freshman Angel Obergh had a team-high 12 assists. Han ended the night with three kills, and four players tied for the team lead with three digs.

The Raptors are back in action Wednesday, March 4, when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on No. 5 Vassar College at 7:00 p.m.
